Capricorn

Capricorn is the tenth sign of the zodiac. This watercolour illustration of the Capricornian astrological energy is available as an art notecard or a print. The text below, describing the symbolism of the zodiac art, is included under the image on the print and comes with the card as a removable insert.

Setting Limits

The Earth of Capricorn is structure: the rock solidity of what doesn't budge, and the clay malleability of what can be given shape. Under the rule of the encircled planet Saturn, Capricorn has added order to the natural laws of the earth and fenced off a corner of nature to produce a sustaining garden. In the wisdom of her old age and experience, she protects us from the danger of falling off the cliff's edge, by setting a constructed boundary at a safe distance from the natural one. When her restrictions extend to the sky, however, she limits her horizon, and we feel her rules to be stifling rather than guiding.

Capricorn: Cardinal Earth

The Sun is in Capricorn between December 23 and January 19

The cards in this series are illustrations of the "pure" energies represented by the Signs. In anyone's birth chart, these energies interact and mitigate each other's expressions. Thus, no one expresses "purely" the energies described - although some people will find an uncanny affinity with the personification if that Sign is strongly emphasized in their chart.

The choice of male or female personification is based on the traditional association of Fire and Air signs with the masculine and of Water and Earth with the feminine. Like all of the imagery involved, this needs to be understood in symbolic terms.

Many people prefer to use the cards for the principle illustrated rather than for the zodiac sign.
